Q: lag/latency airplay apple tv

Hi all. Just installed a fresh version of Mavericks on my Macbook (2012) and it's working great. However I bought an apple tv today so I could use my TV as a secondary display without hooking up any cables to my MB: but there is definitely latency when i use Airplay . The mouse lags when I drag it around on the TV and it's noticeble when watching movies to.

Either it's supposed to be this way and there is no fixing it (maybe with an update w mavericks?) Or there is some preference I could change?

OR it's my router? I have an netgear cg3700 5ghz, which came as a basic package with my internet provider. Either it just suck and I need to upgrade it, or change som preference.

Someone else having trouble with Airplay latency?

AppleTV 2, iOS 7.0.3, Macbook

I'm having the same issue with Mavericks on a Mini Server, apple router, and ethernet connected apple tv.  I haven't had streaming issues like this at all in the past where it just starts/stops so often making it impossible to watch.

I'm wondering if it has to do with app nap?  I just disabled it for iTunes since I'm streaming movies that way.  To do this, go to your apps folder and locate itunes.  Right click, get info, and check the box for disable app nap.

    Hoping this is helpful

This seemed to work for me.

    1. Connect to AirPlay

    2. Activity Monitor > Force Quit "AirPlayXPCHelper"

    3. Reconnect AirPlay
