Q: Apple Pay and fingerprint

New to iPhone and the 6S.  I"ve set up ApplePay and everything talks about paying by using your finger/thumbprint.   I've set up a 6 digit passcode to access ApplePay/Wallet (still trying to understand both) but can I pay with it using that 6 digit code or do I need to do something with a finger/thumbprint?

Also...we are going to by flying on Delta in a week from now and it says I can use this for my boarding pass.  How do I get a boarding pass into the wallet to use it to board the plane?

Thanks...any help would be appreciated

With the iPhone 6s, you have the ability to set up a fingerprint for unlocking your device and also for using Apple Pay. This support document explains setting up Touch ID with your fingerprint. You can set up multiple fingerprints. Use Touch ID on iPhone and iPad - Apple Support  I cannot find any information about using your passcode for Apple Pay. You can see this Support document for information about setting up Apple Pay.  Set up Apple Pay on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch - Apple Support

As far as the boarding pass, you will get information in an email from Delta, and it will contain information about adding the pass to your Wallet. You can also get the Delta app in the App Store and obtain information from that. I have used this with Delta on multiple occasions, and it works great. You just display the pass on the screen and lay it on the reader. Quite nice.

Thank you on the Delta info...guess I should have known that one.  I did read/watch the info on the ApplePay and it doesn't address anything that I could see about the 6 digit code vs. fingerprint.   I'll keep checking though.   Thank you again.

To be honest, I really don't think you are going to find anything. I believe you have to use the fingerprint for Apple Pay. You can still use the 6-digit passcode to open your phone, and there has to be a passcode on the device to be able to add a fingerprint, but I don't see the passcode as a way to activate Apple Pay.

    Hi

Apple Pay on iPhone requires use of either a passcode or Touch ID. Using Touch ID is optional, but you may find it to be more convenient. However, if you would prefer to instead use your passcode to authorise Apple Pay payments:

    • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > enter your passcode > under the heading "Use Touch ID for", turn off the option for Apple Pay.

Information about the Delta Air Lines eBoarding Pass is available here:

The boarding pass can be added to Wallet using the Fly Delta app:

Thanks for that update about using your passcode for Apple Pay. It isn't explained in the Apple Pay support document, and I never recognized there was a switch there to turn Touch ID on/off.

I was aware of the Delta app and boarding passes because I have used them before, so that is why I recommended the app, and knew the information was also shared in the email you receive when making your reservation, and you are reminded when it is time to obtain your boarding pass, a day or so before travel.

Thank you very much.  I did as you said about the passcode and turning off ApplePay...also have the fly delta app and I can see what you're saying there.  Thank you very much...as well as the others comments...it has helped tremendously.

    Have a good one!
