Q: iCloud Photo Library showing photos on icloud.com but not on devices

Hi all! I'm having a big problem with my iCloud Photo Library.

Be aware that I'm having another problem related to an iOS9 iCloud glitch with my backups that has escalated and is being investigated on, so this might be related to that. However, I'll try to post here anyway to see if it's something I can fix myself.

 

I have iCloud Photo Library activated, and all of my pictures and videos are stored in iCloud. However, when I open the Photos.app on my iPhone or iPad, I can't see all of the pictures stored online. I can only see approximately 700 elements out of 2000.

I know for sure that the other photos are still online, because when I access my account on icloud.com I can see them all there, and I can download them onto my computer.

 

I tried to turn off and on again iCloud Photo Library, but that doesn't seem to fix the problem.

 

Does anyone have the same problem? If so, what did you do to fix it?

The number of photos you can see on your device is limited to the amount of space you have available for them to be loaded. Do you have "Optimize Photos" turned on in Settings>Photos under iCloud Photo Library? If not, you want to set it to Optimize, because clearly, there is not enough space on your device to house all 2000 photos in full resolution.

 

iCloud Photo Library will dynamically change the number of photos on your device to correspond with the amount of available memory you have to do so:

 

Save space on your device

iCloud Photo Library keeps all of your photos and videos in their original, high-resolution version. You can save space on your device when you turn on Optimize Storage.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap iCloud > Photos.
  3. Choose Optimize [device] Storage.

On your Mac:

  1. Open the Photos app and click Photos in the menu bar.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Go to the iCloud tab and choose a storage setting.

If you turn on Optimize Storage, iCloud Photo Library automatically manages the size of your library on your device. Your original photos and videos are stored in iCloud and space-saving versions are kept on your device. Your library is optimized only when you need space, starting with the photos and videos you access least. You can download the original photos and videos over Wi-Fi or cellular when you need them.     I have been using this since it came out, over 13000 photos in the cloud and synced between four devices, work flossily since it came out.... All of a sudden, my iPhone is telling my iMac that it has photos to download when connected which are  previews of photos that are all ready in the cloud and on all my devices... I synced them and now Ive got 21 thousand photos..

     

    Something screwed up with the last update, now I can't see anything in the cloud from my iPhone and royally ****** off!

    Assuming all things are equal and a.m.a.a.o.o.u.a.m.? That being said I assume that when you launch the Photos app you can see all 2000 photos, yet only 700/2000 are populated with images, the rest are black squares.

     

    If I got close with my assumption launch the Photos app and tap the very first photo, even if it's blank, tap until it's all the way zoomed into Moments. You should see the iCloud icon in the lower right corner of the blank image and they will being to populate with the photos from iCloud. Slowly scroll down until all the blanks are populated.

     

    Please let me know how far off I missed the mark on this one,

    Unfortunately that's not what's happening. I can only see photos that are directly on my iPhone or iPad, and not the ones stored online. They won't appear, not even as a gray box with the cloud icon.

    And this is what I see on my iPhone. The feed is completely populated, but they seem to be only the photos that were downloaded in their full resolution from iCloud. The others aren't listed.

     

     

     

    As for what @gail from maine said, unfortunately I don't think that's the problem. This is the storage status on my 64gb iPhone:

    In theory, I should be able to see all photos on my device. However, that's not the case, and the strange thing is that new photos aren't uploading to iCloud even if I still have 18gb left of storage.

    One thing that might be correlated is that I did the iOS 10 Public Beta for a week, and during that time I got the warning that I was about to run out of storage even if I still had a couple of gigabyes left. This could be related to my other issue about an iCloud backup that's taking up 27gb of storage, but the iCloud Photo Library should be able to sync all of my photos regardless.

    Have you tried signing out of iCloud and then sign back in?

    Try resetting your device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power button at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears. When the Slide to Unlock screen displays, see if your iCloud photos are starting to download to your device. It may take some time, so be patient.

    I tried but it didn't fix it A couple of days after the original post, it says 150 elements are being uploaded (compared to the 514 of my last screenshot), but still they're not appearing on icloud.com.

     

    It seems that nothing is working I really don't know what to do!
