Q: iTunes is showing my backup under Preferences, but won't allow me to restore.

I have an iPhone 5s that I backed up all my stuff onto my computer through iTunes last month. When I plug my phone in, the option to restore any back ups is grayed out and won't let me do so. But when I go to Preferences and then Devices, my back up shows up. There isn't a lock or anything next to it. I try to click on it then press "OK", but it doesn't do anything for me. Please help! I had spent years working on things that had gotten deleted because of this. I've updated iTunes to the latest and current version, and same thing with my phone.
