To this day, Airdrop is only supported on iPhone 5 and above. We're talking about using Airdrop today not when iPhone 4S came out. I've resorted so far to a third party app realizing Apple is throwing away thousands of dollars paying their employees while carelessly promoting multiple software apps that dont work in accord.

iTunesSend Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for improvement. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.

Or apple is making Billions of dollars selling new items to consumers who will shell out for new hardware anytime something shiny comes out of Cupertino. I'm guessing since it's the most profitable business in history that only sells six items that my guess is closer to the truth.
