Q: How can I upgrade to El Capitan when my browser is too old?

When I try to upgrade from 10.7.5 to El Capitan it says my version of Safari is too old, so I must upgrade to through Twitter, which I don't have and have never used. Where do I go from here? I tried Firefox too, but had the same problem. Every time I click install, it routes me back to an OS explanation page. I have a 2011 iMac with plenty of hard drive space and memory.

You don't use a browser to upgrade OS X.

Launch the (Mac) App Store application, log in with your Apple ID, then check available Updates.

Safari is updated with your system, so this message doesn't make a lot of sense. Is your version of Safari 6.1.6?

You don't use Safari, Firefox, or any other browser to upgrade to El Capitan. Where are you going on the Internet to download El Capitan?

You should be opening the App Store application from the Apple menu. From there, find El Capitan and download.
