Q: why are my photos buried in multiple folders?

I learned here that I could make an alias of my originals folder (I don't see an Original folder but a Masters folder in the photos Package) and then drag it to the desktop so that I could access my photo library from InDesign.

But what I get is countless folders within folders and I have no way of telling which photos are where in order to select the ones I want to place in my Indesign document.

Can somebody shed some light?

Thanks!

Rosario

Yes - Photos is a SQLite database application and the actual files are not ever used except by Photos - the database is not designed for or intended for human access and doing so is totally unsupported and at your own risk - If you want direct access to your files then do not use Photos - use other software that is designed for direct file access

If InDesign is up to date and supports El Captain then you can access your photos using the media browser in the open window toward the bottom of the source pane on the left under media  ==> photos ==> Photos or you can export the photos to a desktop folder and use from there  --  this iPhoto article explains for iPhoto and is mostly correct for Photos - How to Access Files in iPhoto (the show file is no longer available for example)

Bottom line is stay out of the library - it is not supported and there are no user servicable parts in it

    Hi Larry, you wrote:

I'm not clear where this is exactly. Could you explain?

    Thanks for your help!

In the Open File window of any application that is compatible with El Capitan and the new Photos application you'll find Media in the sidebar of the window.  Under it on the right will be the PHotos library and access to the photos you want use:

    Highlight001.jpg

Note:  the application must be compatible with El Capitan and Photos. Otherwise the Photos library will not show up in the window.

    oy! no media option.

could it be because i'm using a free trial? i was testing a couple of programs before buying.

i looked at the link you sent and my window doesn't look like that at all...

in the meantime, i'll export my pics to the desktop.

    thanks again,

Then you need to contact Adobe about compatibility of your version of the software with El Captain

If InDesign is up to date and supports El Captain then you can access your photos using the media browser
