Q: What's with all the threats all the sudden? I've never seen updates so focused on threats and not "bugs" why is that?

Why have the last few updates all been to protect my device from potential outside threats? I've usually gotten "bug fixes" updates (and usually not even for my phone - which is so annoying). Now it's all malicious third party protection. Very unsettling. Updates are such a pain anyway. They take battery and may not even pertain to the device that keeps getting the notification, over and over, but this is crazy. What's changed to make us so vulnerable?

We can't really say - we do not know what may have changed at Apple & what may have changed at the security companies that find the 'threats'. It is apparent that iOS & OS X is popular nowadays, that makes them a large & valuable target to attack, potentially being lucrative to anyone who can break into these OS's or dupe users into exposing accounts with bank accounts attached etc.

A 'bug' is occasionally something that could be turned into a 'threat', so there is little point in trying to distinguish between them. Apple need to fix both to have a secure system.

Read the update notes to understand more. Anything with a 'CVE number' is a threat or vulnerability.

All you can do is keep up to date & hope that Apple fix the issues before they are used by malicious people.

There are International individuals and organizations whose sole purpose is to monetize personal and corporate information, or clandestinely control computers in this demographic via purpose-built threat-ware.

This problem is spiraling out of control, and Apple is simply providing protective updates as these threats evolve, and are detected, for its own, and customer protection.
