you need to start a new group message, your old message thread will continue to the original recipient as long as they are in the group but your added recipients will not see them in the new thread, neither will you, you will need to refer to the previous message thread.

Wow, thank you for the guidance.  Unless I am missing something, leave it up to Apple (& Google) to require such a convoluted process for such a simple function.  Why doesn't Apple just add the address box with a "+" at the top??

Here is the message I created and the process that I think you described.  Let me know if I got it right:

(orig txt to me) Robbye wrote:

Well ... Titusville has arrived.  They have a free standing Starbucks !!

    Royce replied:

Wow! Melbourne didn't even have one when I moved there.

Apple strikes again; this convoluted process/message is the only way I could determine how to copy Cathy on my reply AND have her see Robby's original text.

I had to start a new message to R & C,  copy & paste R's original msg, then compose my reply.

I think the result is C sees R's original + my reply while R sees her original twice & my reply.

It would be so easy if an address box with a "+" appeared at the top of my reply screen.

    Thanks again Jimmy,

    Royce

Why don't you ask your phone carrier why you can't add another recipient to a text message, after all SMS is a carrier feature and not an Apple feature.

Apple gives this feature when you create a group imessage.

Send a group message on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

    Thank you,

I apologize to Apple; I had no idea that AT&T was controlling texting features.  I will take it up with them.  I have an EE degree from 1969 so I am more familiar with hardware than software.  I spent my engineering career with Motorola designing radios.  I am not at all familiar with SMS technology other than I guess I am using it.

Thank you, Jimmy, for enlightening me.
