Q: PowerMac Pro does not recognize MacBook Pro in Target Disk mode
I am trying to restore a MacBook Pro disk from a backup, but my PowerMac Pro does not seem to recognize the MacBook Pro in Target Disk mode. I have a FireWire 800 cable and the adapter for the thunderbolt port to FireWire 800. Is there something more I need to do to get the Power Mac Pro to recognize the MacBook Pro in Target Disk mode as an external harddrive?
MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

You said "I have a FireWire 800 cable and the adapter for the thunderbolt port to FireWire 800."
neither you MacBook Pro nor Mac Pro has Thunderbolt port. It appears you connected the Thunderbolt>FW adopter into a mini displayport. It is same form factor but mini displayport is video only.
The Mac Pro has two FW 800 ports and the 2010 MacBook Pro has one FW port so connect the two using the mac's FW ports. The 2010 MacBook Pro has Mini displayport but no Thunderbolt port and only the 2013 Mac Pro has a Thunderbolt port.
