Q: i cannot get my iphone4s to update

i cannot get my iphone4s to update or to restore keep getting error code -1 i factory reset it to sell it then friend said he couldnt get it to acctivate so i tried several times and get error code -1 but the phone was working jus moments before

I really need this phone working asap it was working fine before it got factory reset

That is either going to be a hardware failure or this phone has previously been jailbroken or had the OS rolled back.
