Q: What about Mail bug fixes?

Mail has behaving badly since El Capitan installed.

  • Crashes often
  • When replying to an existing thread, I get a blank email, which then cannot be accessed, or closed.

I have to restart to clear this.

Annoying.

Has this been fixed in the update?

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.53 GHz), Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Can't relate to this particular bug but I recently had many problems with the mail trash system.   I applied the 10.11.6 Combo update and that has put everything back to normal.   But it is 1.5 Gb and takes some time.

The problem is not with Mail. It is with your installation and/or corrupted mail files. I would recommend that you do this:

    1. Backup your files.
    2. Erase your HDD.
    3. Install El Capitan from scratch.
    4. Configure the new installation.
    5. Do not restore anything from your backup except your personal files.
    6. Reinstall third-party software from their original media.

Install Yosemite or El Capitan from Scratch

(Basic Steps to Follow for a Clean Install of OS X Lion and Later)

           Backup if possible before continuing.

Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:

Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on Continue button.

When Disk Utility loads select the volume (indented entry, usually Macintosh HD) from the Device list.

Click on the Erase icon in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.

Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)

Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.

Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.

Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

Thanks. I have a 150Mbps connection so file size not a problem. I'll try this before any of the more drastic solutions proposed by others!

Thanks Kappy. This is a drastic solution. I will clean out my mailbox (which probably needs it) and reinstall MacOS as a starter, before cleaning the whole disc and starting again. It would probably take me a week!
