Q: Purchase Online VS App Store

I recently purchased a computer and added Final Cut Pro on the computer through the purchasing process, so it came on the computer as software (no download necessary). Seemed like the better rout to go because with was automatically installed. Long story short, the computer was stolen, I am buying a new one and was told I could download  Final Cut Pro onto the new computer from my apple account. Apparently there is a disconnect here. I had multiple apple employees tell me this was possible, when it wasn't they said they would refund me and I could buy it again... 5 hours later, no success. I am told I will not get a refund or a code to download it again. The question is WHY would you add it to your purchase if when you go through the app store you will always be able to download it again? Is there any different in the two programs? Just a lot of people working for Apple making empty promises.

TThere is no difference in the applications. Pre-installed software primarily is for institutional buyers. It doesn't benefit the single user in any way that I know. It's unfortunate you didn't have time to activate your Apple ID in the App Store before it was stolen.

I have no experience of pre-installed software but it would seem to me that if you can produce proof of purchase for both the computer and FCP X you should be able to get a refund  .  .  .  if not, Apple would undoubtedly be breaking the law (certainly in the UK).
