Q: Don't give up on Aperture

I think that giving up on Aperture and accepting its demise is not our only option, Aperture is by far the best digital photo application that Apple (or indeed any other software developer) have created and as such, must not be allowed to disappear.

If we all create a groundswell of opinion we can persuade them to reinstate this Rolls Royce of an application. Lets unite, and rise up to remind Apple that Adobe cannot be the provsole digital photo platform on the planet.

Must not be allowed, who are you?

It is allowed to go out of manufacture if that's what its manufacturer wants, Apple is its manufacturer

Aperture was right near the top of the charts on the Mac App store right up until they pulled it.

I don't think it had much to do with Adobe and not being able to compete.

We all waited for 3-4 years for Aperture version 4, then the sudden announcement, it wasn't coming.

I heard a few rumours about a year before the announcement that the next version of Aperture was going to be amazing. (from people that had apparently seen it).

So they did put a lot of work into Aperture behind the scenes that never saw the light of day.

Maybe it was a back yard deal between Adobe and Apple, you guys kill flash (source of most Safari and Mac crashes) and we will pull Aperture...

I would love it if Affinity did make an Aperture type program. Or if Apple would kindly sell off the source code to Affinity so it can be revived.

I have tried Lightroom several times, and also I own Capture One and nothing comes close as far as speed of working and such a clear interface. I will continue to use Aperture for as long as I can.

At the end of the day every business wants profits, it's how you get there that makes a difference.

Study Amazon and Costco for example, and even my own company (multi-million) are totally customer-centric giving people what they want as a first driver for decisions, profits follow.

Apple was like that, but not any more.

Neither Amazon or Costco are manufacturers, bad example.

A customer-centric model is what we're talking about!

And you can certainly be right, I'm not here to argue a point about how profits are generated, weather it's service or manufacture or whatever.

All I know is when I FIRST think about serving my clients, fans and customers, profits are effortless and customers are thrilled - there are plenty of companies who follow this line of thinking and make great profits.

That requires profit, of which Aperture provided little

It doesn't matter if Aperture provided little profit.

If people used Apple computers because of Aperture, then you also need to factor that in as well.

Personally, I would pay a lot more for Aperture up to $499.

    Oh wait, I actually did.

I have been a user since version 1 which did cost a lot more than they used to sell 3.6 on the App store.

Thing is, we don't need - or even get to - factor anything in. Apple made this decision. Companies stop making products for all sorts of reasons. They've moved in a different direction. Contrary to the title of the thread, yes, do give up on Aperture. It's dead. It's not coming back. Apple have moved on and there's no point dreaming otherwise.

Well, clearly it mattered to Apple, and that's all that matters. It's gone. move on.

Hi all and Administrator, I am new to this group but not new to Aperture. This is what I want to write to Apple and the text section in the product feature request only allows limited text, so whoever from Apple is reading this, please see full text below. And also appreciate if anyone can point me to the right channel to launch this.

    ______________

    To Apple:

I would like to express how disappointed and frustrated I am on Apple's decision to discontinue Aperture for producing photo book. When I heard this news some time ago, I was prepared to be open minded to see comparable features offered by Photo.

I started producing photo books around 10 years ago and quickly switched to Aperture after my first album realising the numerous flexibility on layout and text. I produce a few photo books a year usually for my personal trips as I treat photography as my main hobby. You can probably sample the creativity by viewing my previous orders, and I was still able to produce one through Aperture in February.

I just had a summer trip and had no choice but to switch to Photo and my nightmare has started. I could not hold back the thought on how amateurish my new photo book has become. No longer could I freely add frames and text where I could see was important to a page, and I failed to line up the photos when I had to choose some photos to fit the aspect ratio, never mind maximising combinations to fill a page.

There must be a commercial reason why ordering photo book through Aperture needs to be stopped, but I paid for that and now I do not have an alternative from Apple. I am deeply disappointed. I am not seeking for compensation on Aperture nor my new photo book, but simply I need a solution for this from Apple.

Please show me someone in Apple cares and I am sure there are thousands who share my thought. Thank you.

If you want to write to Apple, why don't you. This is not Apple, it is a user to user site, Apple won't read it. Aperture devotees will have better luck in their endeveaours if they tell Apple, not us.

You get Raw updates offered because other apps use them - specifically Photos.app and Preview.

Lightroom has powerful editing capabilities - arguably better than Aperture's in many ways. What it lacks are a) Aperture's DAM prowess and b) its elegant and intuitive user interface and workflows. Like other Adobe products, Lightroom ignores Apple GUI conventions and imposes its own horrendous web-like UI.

    Couldn't agree more!!

Using Lightroom is bit like herding cats.
