Q: Music on multiple computers

My wife and I would like to share our music collection. It contains mostly ripped CDs but also a growing number of downloaded songs.

The music is all store at home on our iMac.

I would like to have all this music available on her laptop, so she can listen to it at work, and also her iPhone.

Additionally, I would like this music on my laptop for when I'm on the road.

Would it be possible to do this by 'authorizing' all 3 OSX devices and importing the music from the home iMac to both of them?

Then, sync my wife's iPhone with her laptop, or the iMac.

Would I have to use her Apple ID to sign in to iTunes on my laptop?

Would using her Apple ID for iTunes on my laptop effect the use of my Apple ID for other functions like iCloud?

MacBook Air, iOS 9.3.3

Yes you'd achieve what you want exactly as you have described.

You wouldn't need to sign into her account on your computer and vice versa but you will need to authorise them.

You won't be able to add your purchased music to her phone unless you set up family sharing.

    Hi there.

One option is to create a family group which you can invite your partner or who ever you want. With the Family group you can then subscribe to Apple Music and all your music collection from your iMac will be available to all family members. You can simply listen to them on the go with internet connection or if no internet connection is available you can download the tracks to the devices so you can still listen to them.

You don't have to subscribe to Apple music for your music to be available to family members, purchases are available to family members whether you subscribe to anything or not, subscribing to Apple music won't make non-purchased items in your library available to all (although they may well be available as part of Apple's library)
