Q: NEED TO SAVE OR EXPORT PRECIOUS VIDEOS (Not Responding)! :(

I just visited with my grandmother recently and recorded a really nice, long conversation between the two of us in which she shared a lot of stories.

I hope to pass down this experience to my kids and eventually their kids, but Quicktime is being annoying.

-_-

There is no more room remaining on this computer, and I cannot copy the files to an external hard drive because the "files are too large for the volume's format".

I'm stuck.

I have located the "Unsaved Quicktime Player Document" in "Autosave Information" in "Libraries", so I don't know if that's of any help, but at least I know they are somehow accessible. FOR NOW.

The application is not responding, and I cannot even attempt to clear space or save the files because Quicktime is frozen.

I'm just scared to force quit out in the fear that those files will somehow get deleted and I won't ever be able to see them again.

HELP PLEASE

Use Disk Utility to format the external drive for Mac OS use and then move the files over.

Free up space on your internal drive by moving your largest library folders to the external drive (Photos, Movies and iTunes) and delete them from the internal drive.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, Kirk! It would be amazing if you could help me!

I've made enough space to accommodate the video files locally, but first thing's first; fixing the "Application Not Responding" issue.

I'm unable to even attempt to save the files because QuickTime is frozen.

    How can we fix that?

I'm scared to force quit because I don't want to "lose any unsaved data".

Right click on one of these "local files" and Get Info.

What is the file size and other information? If they appear complete you could test them with a different player like VLC and if they work then you should quit and relaunch QuickTime Player.

Here's what I'm looking at currently, my friend:

So as you can see, they are qtpxcomposition files. I've managed to open and play all three of them in VLC. HOWEVER, I was only able to copy and make backups of two of them to the desktop. The third stalls out and never writes a duplicate file, like the other two did. I will force quit QuickTime if you know that file will not get deleted on exit, but I am scared to lose it.

One thing I would like to point out before your response, is the section I have outlined in the second picture. It says I have "Read & Write" privileges, and there is a lock on the file. Perhaps I may be able to unlock it and somehow salvage it...? I am unsure.

Let me know what you think.

And thanks again for the timely replies. I really appreciate it, Kirk.

Export them from VLC to bypass QuickTime Player.

After I had made copies and saved them to the Desktop, I was confident enough to Force Quit QuickTime.

When I reopened QuickTime, it did -- in fact, still pull up the files and didn't delete them like I was scared it would.

Trying to open and export them through VLC, just in case, was definitely an anxiety-saver though.

Thank you for your time, Kirk! Good luck with everything, my friend!
