Q: Final Cut Pro X export issue

What would cause my exported video to look different on YouTube than it does on Vimeo? I exported the same file (share-->export file-->Apple Devices/better quality/3840x2025)...Here is the YouTube link with small black bars across the top -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7mAkej5cvo

Here is the Vimeo link (with no black bars) -

https://vimeo.com/173976713/d834a0c356

The only difference in the actual file prior to export is me adding my logo to bottom left for Vimeo (as you can add that automatically via YouTube. I exported via the method above AND directly to YouTube through FCPX with same result).

Just curious if anyone knows what would cause this? I have noticed that when importing my videos into FCPX for editing they all need to be pushed in slightly to get RID of the black bars. I am shooting at 3840x2160 4k at 30fps on a DJI Inspire Pro aerial platform (MFT camera).

PS. I am also aware of the Lut Loader issue at :56 and have resolved in FCPX.

Dont export to Apple devices for YT or Vimeo if you're making a project that doesn't conform to Apple device presets. Make a master file at your project resolution.

Ok, but when played on an Apple device things look fine.  It's when it's played in a browser (any browser) where YouTube displays the black bars (Vimeo doesnt).

Would it change the result if I exported to a master file and selected H.264 and kept resolution at 4096x2160 (even though that's not what it was shot in?

I don't understand. Why is your project 4096x2160 when your media isn't?

WHats the first image you show? Is that the master file export. Please post a screenshot of your project properties in the inspector.

The video on youtube appears to be private, so we can't see it.

    Saw it on vimeo. Nice.

TThat's not the inspector but whatever. The first image? What is that? That doesn't seem to be the dialogue for master file export. If it was I dont understand why it's showing the resolutions you display with what seem to be your project settings. The resolutions you show in the first image appear when you export to and Apple device setting. What is it you don't understand? As I  said earlier don't have export to Apple device, export a master file.

One thing I dont understand is why you would reference Apple TV when I hadnt mentioned it or exported to it to begin with.  The first image I included WAS the master file export settings window. Exporting to Vimeo/YouTube directly, to master file or to Apple Devices all produce the same result but only when displayed on YouTube.  Did you watch both videos?

I downloaded the "720p" versions from both youtube and vimeo and played them back in . Neither has any black bars whatsoever, so this is just a matter of how they are displayed in the browser. They try to achieve the same aspect ratio of your submission, and do so differently (1280x676 yt; 1366x720 vm).

As it happens, you are not submitting a 3840x2160, which would be a 16:9 aspect ratio, but something with a wider aspect ratio (both values I give above are close approximations of the aspect ratio of your 3840x2025 export). It looks like all the trouble stems from this. You say your media is 3840x2160, but your project appears to be 4096x2160, and you are exporting at 3840x2025. Why all these mismatches? You should edit in a project that matches your media, so it ought to be 3840x2160 all the way. Why aren't you doing it?

That is helpful.  Thanks. When I started the project I just used first frame as the guideline for the project.  I dont do a lot of video and focus more on stills for my projects but I have done quite a few videos in the past and have gone about it the same way I am doing it now.  Is there a way to fix this without losing all of my edits?
