My phone got thrown in a pool last week, and I had to get a replacement.
I've been trying to restore from the iCloud backup for an entire week, with no luck.
I can pinpoint where the issue is. I have tons of pictures/videos in my messaging history. Although the messages themselves (8+ years worth) immediately get restored, the videos and photos slowly come in during the restore process. It always gets to 5.2GB of Messages data restored, then it stops with the "cannot be restored" error message. And I'm left with a bunch of blank media in my message history.
Since it always stops exactly at 5.2GB, I'm fairly certain this has nothing to do with my wifi, or anything like that. It seems the backup has a problem.
I would love it if I could talk to an iCloud engineer at Apple to figure out if there are any options for me. There are eight years of memories in those messages. I'd hate to lose them all.
Apple, can you please connect me with an iCloud engineer?
