Q: My track pad is burning through batteries

My track pad is burning through batteries every week. I use my computer less than 12 hours a week. This seems odd. Is there a track pad sleep option I don't know about?

There's no way to "sleep" your trackpad. But you can streamline your battery use. (Two to four weeks until replacement/recharging is in the ballpark.)

    1. Rely on rechargeable batteries - like the ones that came with your trackpad.

    2. Invest in a AA recharger - they're relatively cheap and reliable.

This is helpful and I will use my charger but I've had batteries last for over 6 months. Now they are burning out in less than two weeks. Thank you

Your comments make the situation clearer.

Heat is an enemy of electronics.

I don't know if my experience mirrors yours, but heat can wear down the longevity of batteries drastically - so don't keep the rechargeable batteries in the charger any longer than you have to. Keeping the batteries plugged into the charger's wall plug can be disastrous...to the batteries, anyway. Batteries sometimes get hot when charging - but it's also a sign the battery is becoming less efficient. If it's really hot, consider tossing the offending battery.

I do not know if you can still get, but I switched to a Logitech rechargeable trackpad that uses a rechargeable lithium battery and charges over USB or you can leave it plugged into a USB port for regular use.

Logitech isn't making these any longer, but Amazon has a few left, but tye pricing is a lot higher, now.

They used to sell for $49.99, but ones that are still new are fetching $100, now.

If you can find these new or near new condition and cheap these work pretty well.

I have been using one of these for over two years, now.

I do not have to worry about batteries.
