Jul 28, 2016 3:30 PM in response to beckielu5by Winston Churchill,★HelpfulWith iOS7 later you need to enter your password to disable find my phone in order to erase it.
Even if they do need your assistance, don't give them your password, you can remove the ID from the device (if it is locked) at iCloud.com > Find my phone.
If the other party keeps insisting tell them to bring the phone to you and you will enter the password.

Jul 28, 2016 6:16 PM in response to beckielu5by gail from maine,More info needed. You erased the phone using Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings to "restore it to factory settings"?
What is the specific message that is asking for the "pincode"? Who is the email from? What does it say exactly?

Jul 28, 2016 6:56 PM in response to beckielu5by gail from maine,To make sure that you have removed the Activation Lock from your device, go to iCloud.com on a computer and click on the Find My iPhone app. See if the device you just "erased" is still showing up in the list. If it is, you need to select the device, then click on Erase Device from the iCloud.com Find My iPhone app, and erase it again.
When you do this, it will ask for your iCloud password in order to turn off your Activation Lock. Once you have initiated the command to erase and supplied the password, the device should erase again. Once it does that, you will know that you have removed the Activation Lock from the device.
To be totally sure, go through the set-up process, and sign in with another Apple ID when asked.
