Q: macbook retina and external display resolution
I have a MacBook Retina 12-inch Early 2015 with an Apple USB-C multiport adapter that has an HDMI connector. I am trying to use a Dell 27'' u2713hm monitor with a HDMI cable. However, the display preferences do not permit me to set the resolution. I have the choice between Default for display (and this is 1080 px, even though the monitor has a native resolution of 2560x1440) and scaled which offers 1080 or lower resolution. How do I use my monitor at its full resolution with the HDMI connector I have on the multiport adapter?
Thanks for your help

my Dell 3008wfp has a similar problem. It only supports up to 1920x1200 over HDMI. You need dual-link-DVI or displayport for 2560x1200 on my Dell monitor. I think your Dell has a similar problem, so you either need a USB-C to displayport adapter or an Active HDMI to displayport adapter to use with the Apple Multiport USB-c adapter.
I tried a DeLock HDMI to displayport adapter that supports these high resolutions and I tried a LogiLink USB-c to Displayport adapter

Both solutions do not work very well on my MacBook 2016. I experience flickering of the Dell screen at these high resolutions, but sometimes it works perfectly fine for a prolonged period of time. (Also the logilink does not allow any other device to be connected.)
This may be a problem that only the 2016 model has, (according to other topics), so you 2015 model may work.
