Q: fcpx 10.2.2 "share failed" everytime

I'm getting the  "share failed" warning during my exports. I'm on fcpx 10.2.2, and I'm on Yosemite 10.10.5, and I've never had any problems with fcpx for years. Last week exports were good, now all the sudden it fails unless I export using the "master file" setting with some flavor of ProRes. If I try to use h.264, or any codec other than "master file" it fails. What I really want is to export using 'save current frames' to generate stills quickly for my project - this always fails. I thought it was just a save frame issue since my master exported, but it turns out that anything other than a master file will fail. has anyone come across this yet?

I'm trying to export both to the desktop and/or mounted drives. Any advice is appreciated.

- Martin

Delete preferences: hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click "Delete Preferences".

Try creating a new project, add a clip or two, share. Does it work? If so, select all from the problem project, copy, paste into a new project.

    If not:

Try creating a new library new project, share. If it works, then the problem is with the library. If so, copy events to a new one, check that everything is working, then delete the library.

Thanks again for the reply - I did try this and no luck. I tried new projects and new libraries, it just won't export unless it's a 'master file' everything else fails. Very strange problem.

Then the next step is to remove Final Cut Pro X and reinstall.

Use FCS Remover to delete the application completely, then download a fresh copy from the App Store (login with the same Apple ID used to buy FCP X, click on Purchases, locate the application and click the Download button).

Got it. If there's no other advice then I guess this is the next step. Thanks.

Guessing that there is either something wrong with the settings in your embedded copy of Compressor (to wit, Luis' advice to remove). or that somehow a copy of the  Pro Video Formats is conflicting with "something". You could try downloading a fresh copy of Pro Video Formats. But I think what Luis said is your best bet.

    Hi Martin

So if you just want to share (export) a frame, did you add the destination in the Share Pane? There is a pre built single frame share destination, but you need to drag it over to the destinations.

Never had an issue with single frames.

If you are exporting timeline, make sure you have plenty of free space on drive. FCPX has to create temp files for the export. Make sure you have some free ram as well. This can cause failed exports. Try to keep ~25% free space if possible, but 10% minimum. h264 can take a long time.

Sharing as Master File is the most trouble free procedure. If you are converting to a different format, then it involves an internal program "pro convert" if I remember correctly, and can cause issues. You can always convert using Compressor or 3rd party app from exported file.

    Hope this helps, Greg
