Q: Error code 46

Took some slides back in 1985. Scanned and backed them up using Dell desktop Windows XP onto RW CD's in TIFF format. Roughly 19 to 21 slides per CD. Want to transfer/copy them to PICTURES on Mac 21.5. for future project.  From my first disc, I can get some of the slides into Preview, but not all. Error Code 46 is cropping up.  I have noticed at the top of the window it is giving the file name etc, followed by [[ locked ]].  I don't understand what this means or how to correct Error code 46. If anyone can help, in their instructions, please be stage by stage.

If you do a Get Info on one of the locked files you should see a box checked for Locked. Try unchecking.locked-getinfo.png

At the bottom of the Get Info window, check under Sharing & Permissions. You might need to add you and give it read & write permissions. (You will need to click on the lock and enter your password in order to make changes.)

Thank you for your quick response.Diane of Oregon.  You have taught me something, but unfortunately I have given the incorrect information.  The CD disc is a Writable only.  The GET INFO window shows the STATIONERY PAD and LOCKED greyed out, and under SHARING & PERMISSIONS;  You can only read .... is what is written.  All the other discs, which are REwritable CDs, I can get all the photos.

Can you drag the files to your Mac from the CD? You don't want to write to the CD, you just want to copy the files to your Mac so you can use them. Once you copy, THEN you might have to unlock.

I have tried as you suggested, but the answer is NO.  What I have done is looked at the GET INFO for the other discs I have been successful with, and they too have the LOCKED greyed out, and the PERMISSIONS; read only.  The difference between them is that the problem disc is a WRITABLE ONLY, whereas the successful discs are RE-writables. From the GET INFO window, there is no padlock showing for me to click and unlock or alter any permissions.. I am now thinking there has to be a way to unlock a read only CD with TIFF format on it.

I'm not talking about unlocking the CD.

Just to be clear, you cannot drag an image off the CD to your Desktop?

Can you open the image from the CD then use Save As or Duplicate to save to your Desktop?
