Thanks for asking your question here in the Apple Support Communities. The reason some apps will not update can be caused by a few things. I recommend checking these things to try to get them to work again.
First, it is usually related to space that causes this. If there is no enough space in your device, all the app downloads and updates can freeze. You can try to use iTunes to get this organized and sorted out. This help article from Apple will help: iTunes 12 for Mac: Sync and organize iOS apps.
Otherwise, you can try to make more space on the internal device drive. Check these two help articles from Apple: Check your storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and If you need more space for an iOS update.
Lastly, you can use this help article: If an app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open.
