Q: Open Numbers file from link

Is there any way—any way whatsoever—to open a Numbers file from another iOS app? Note that I do not mean opening a Numbers file in another app. I want some way—presumably a link, as iThoughts and Evernote can do—to cause Numbers to open, and a file to open in Numbers.

Sharing the document via iCloud does not work; the best I can do with that is download a copy of my file and open it in Numbers. I do not want to download another copy of my file every time I wish to work on it.

What I am trying to do is put a link to a Numbers file into iThoughts, so I can tap on that link within iThoughts and have it open the desired document in Numbers.

The document doesn't have to be stored in iCloud. Dropbox, or just about anything else, will work.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), iMac (Early 2008) C2D

No. There is no general equivalent in iOS to the command to open this or that document with its registered application, and in most cases the files of one application are completely isolated from others through sandboxing rules. As far as I can tell Numbers for iOS can only use iCloud for remote storage. There is no reason why you cannot access the same document from multiple iOS devices, your Mac, or iCloud.com on the web.
