This allows objects to snap in to position when moving one object to align with another:
- two rectangular images with the same proportions can be resized to fit exactly
- two rectangular images with different proportions can be resized to fit exactly using the Mask Tool (Format > Image > Mask)
- a square image can be sized by height or width to fit a rectangular image as below:

- Scale the image to the size that you want.
- Format menu : Advanced : Define as Media Placeholder.
- Duplicate (command+D, or option+drag) as many as you want from the original image.
- Position as needed.
- Right-click on the duplicates, and choose Replace Image…
You now have multiple images scaled to the same size. Because they are all Placeholder images, future images that you drag/drop onto them will automatically replace, and resize to the target.
- From the Images toolbar, insert one image in the slide.
