Q: Bluetooth disconnects sporadically
Bluetooth on my MBP 13 inch retina laptop will sporadically and without warning disconnect everything I have connected to it and force me to restart my computer to get everything functioning again. Occurrences of the problem are sporadic and do not appear to follow any particular pattern.
SYSTEM
- 13" MBP Retina BTO laptop with i7 processor (early 2013)
- New Apple Magic Keyboard
- New Apple Magic Trackpad 2
- 24 inch Apple Thunderbolt Monitor connected to laptop via thunderbolt connector (Previous gen to last model).
- 2 Western Digital USB 3.0 Passport drives
- 1 WD USB 3.0 desktop drive
- Sony Receiver connected via HDMI for audio output + 2 speakers and 1 subwoofer
PROBLEM:
- Bluetooth will drop all connected devices sporadically and force a reboot to reconnect them
- Restarting will almost always solve the issue - 9.9 times out of 10.
- The problem can manifest itself several times in a day at most or maybe only 1 or 2 times a week.
ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE:
- Diagnostics: Apple diagnostics says both laptop and Bluetooth are fine and there are no hardware errors
- Disconnected all external devices for periods of time
- Relocated workstation to 3 different locations in my apartment at different times to test for interference
PROBLEM WITH THE PROBLEM:
- The problem doesn't occur in any consistent pattern that I can recognize.
- It doesn't happen every time I boot up my computer and might not repeat for 3 or 4 days or it might repeat 2 or 3 times in a single day.
- Rebooting laptop always fixes the issue until the next time the problem occurs.
I purchased the current Apple wireless keyboard and trackpad 2 believing my older peripherals were the problem. Occurrences were reduced dramatically at first but now fit into the pattern consistent with my previous keyboard/trackpad.
I'm open to any suggestions.
Thanks.

Try resetting the NVRAM and SMC.
