Q: Share document in Pages on two iPads

I'm trying to share a Pages document for collaborative editing between two iPads, something I have successfully done before.

I can share the document by sending a link, but when I open the link on the second iPad, it opens in Pages for iCloud on Safari; I can't figure out how to make it accessible to the Pages app. (I can save it on the second iPad, but I lose the collaboration.)

Things I've checked:

  • iOS and Pages are up-to-date on both iPads
  • Both iPads are logged into iCloud and have Pages enabled for iCloud

Any help appreciated.

And presumably both devices are using the one iCloud account? When you close the document on one device the changes should be saved to iCloud ready for the next device to open the latest version of it. Sending a link allows access to the iCloud web version, but that shouldn't be necessary from your iOS devices, or a Mac if you have one.

    Just stumbled on an answer...

If I protect the shared document with a password, opening the document's link in Safari "fails" because of the password, and Safari shows a "Open in Pages..." button.

If a password is required for collaboration (which I don't think is the intent), that should be made clear in the UI. Otherwise, it should be more obvious how to get around Safari/Pages for iCloud and use the native app.
