Q: iTunes update library questions

So just updated computer with latest iTunes (iMac Retina - 2 months old).

When I go to Apps library none of the apps show.  All the tabs like My Apps and Updates and the lower tabs iPhone Apps, iPad Apps etc- say go to the app store but it used to show what I had bought and allowed me to update them on iTunes.

In music all the songs show the cloud and all the movies do as well.  But I had some downloaded locally, particularly the songs as a bunch had been ripped from my old CD collection.  Before this they did not all show cloud.  The files were on the computer before the update.  What gives on those?  Trying to compare list size - seems like I am missing songs as well.

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Thanks but tried the second option.  Still no apps and the majority of songs show cloud as if there is no hard copy.  Didn't try the first as seems like I can play the songs - and the apps are on IOS devices and I am not seeing error messages.

The entries shown with a cloud will stream from Apple's servers even though you could save bandwidth by playing the local copy if you fixed your library. You cannot sync a device with cloudy content. Use the first link Limnos gave you.

I want local so I can download on iPads and iphone for air and car travel.

Appreciate your thoughts but none of the solutions work  (copied old file and used time machine ).  Now I have WAY fewer songs than before - hoping it is just taking time compiling a new list but the files have to be on the computer somewhere.

And while not a big issue not sure where all the APPs that used to be in my iTunes program went.  I can update directly on my devices but it was much easier to just update on my computer and then they sync to devices far faster.

Apple stuff used to just work.  It just doesn't consistently any more.  5 macs, 5 iPads and 5 iPhones -- invested a lot in an ecosystem where the quality of the updates seems to be going down.

If you have Time Machine, and haven't excluded the iTunes folder from it, then it should be possible to restore the exact state of the library from before things went wrong.
