Q: Windows 10 won't download, error code pops up and says machine needs to be repaired.

I followed the instructions on the article and partitioned the drive with no problems, but once it booted, instead of asking me where to download Windows 10 (step 4 in the article), it instead gives me an error code ("0xc0000098"). It tells me to put in the installation disk (which I don't have) and repair.

 

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? (Not tech savvy, so I'm sure I just made some mistake somewhere)

So I've finally got everything working. Turns out the root of my problem was a corrupted USB. Switched out once, so I thought I was fine in that department, but ran an experiment and got a whole new USB. That one worked out perfectly, and Windows is now installed and running fine. Thanks so much for all the help!

    What is the year/model of your Mac?

     

    Did you download an ISO image from Microsoft - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/home ?

     

    Please also see https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/assistant/6.0/ .

    My mac is a Mid 2012 macbook pro with retina. I did download the ISO image from microsoft and used bootcamp assistant to create the installation media on a USB. Does one have to put the ISO image in the USB or just use it to create the installation software in the disk (I did the second)?

    The USB is formatted to MS-DOS (FAT), so all should be fine in that area.

    BC Assistant 'merges' the ISO and the appropriate drivers to the USB. Please connected the USB and post a screen shot of the available files on the USB. It should look similar to

    So this is what I have now (turned out i was missing a few things, and after redoing the installation media creation that particular error code no longer appears! Thanks so much ). However, a new problem has reared its ugly head: I get to the windows installation page and put in a language and such. It tries to install, but then a new error code pops up (two actually). It says that Windows can't open the file D:\Sources\Install.wim and gives me error codes "0x8007000B" and "0xC000001D."

     

    Any idea on this?

    Do you have a mixed 32-bit and 64-bit ISO/installation media? What is the file size of your ISOInstallation media? It should be about 4-4.2GB.

    Please remember to back up OS X and Windows. Also, create a Windows System Restore point.
