Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities and congrats on your new iPad Pro. I know how important getting a SIM card to work with your iPad Pro is to you! The following articles and steps will be helpful in troubleshooting and resolving your issue with getting a SIM card to work in your iPad Pro:
1. First, check for carrier-settings updates, as this can include updates from Apple and your carrier to carrier-related settings, such as network, calling, cellular data, messaging, personal hotspot, and voicemail settings.
iOS: Updating your carrier settings
2. Reset your network settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.
3. Lastly, according to this article:

NotebooksHi and thank you so much for the help but im afraid none of the suggestions worked and i will have to tell you the story so you can grasp the background.
I purchased a brand new ipad pro 9.7 32GB wifi cellular which had been network locked to vodafone, i asked for it to be unlocked but was informed that they will not forward me the code until it had been on a vodafone sim for thirty days well ok so what choice did i have, i agreed to take a pay as you go data sim with 3gb of data no problem i can cope with that (i've already got a 3 contact and had it for the last two yrs without a problem and have the new nano sim ready for the unlocked ipad) i paid my money and was given the sim from the dedicated vodafone shop inserted it into the ipad and nothing happened, i was told to change some settings and wait a couple of hrs ...still nothing.... the following 48hr was spent resetting the ipad resetting the APN etc .....but still nothing, went back to the vodafone shop to complain to be told that my sim card mobile number had been duplicated and some other shop had activated a sim with the same number at the exact same time unknown to the shop ...strange i thought when you would try to credit it it would flag up mobile against a unique sim number ...what do i know i only work with network and sims...i must be silly ...so i was given another sim with 1gb of data popped it in guess what still nothing hence the apple help from you guys... almost ready to smash it on the floor in frustration but he following morning i was in bed mooching through the menus and it came live went off and then came live and stayed on GREAT i thought my joy was short lived, network coverage was ok but unable to get online no problem through Wifi but not cellular ....i thought its got to be no credit on the so called 1gb data sim, went to shop who apologised and got it credited went into a costa for coffee in the town centre and i noticed no 4G coverage and struggling to get online....so back to shop again who told me "a box never got a tick in it when it was set up but i'll do it now" he said ....4hrs later still no 4G got online to vodafone customer help who seemed great and happy to help they transferred my data off the original sim brilliant and said "the 4G was a technical issue in my area which would take 3-4 days to fix" i had no choice but to believe them ...but i drive around the country as im a telematics contractor for some big tracking companies and need 4G for data transfer and legal documents etc so my ipad has been with me all day guess what NO 4G COVERAGE ANYWHERE in the midlands northants birmingham worcestershire and coventry yet my mobile phone sitting in the cradle in the car pumping a good and regular 4G signal .......they fed me some Bul@h~$ on line TECHNICAL ISSUE so i am about to get really awkward and rude to them or threaten them with legal action ...so the ipad works brilliant the product is cool its the carriers fault i do apologize for the waffle on bu thank you and here's to vodafones demise some more absolutely RUBBISH ...BUT THANK YOU GUYS
