Q: Opening raw file to Photoshop

Have MacBook Pro, use Nikon D7100. Photos are jpeg+raw. On PC I can right-click on photo and choose to open in Photoshop. I am not able to accomplish this on the Mac. I have tried dragging files to desktop. I can edit photo and change to default to raw, then drag it to desktop and it still shows as a jpeg. There has to be a simple answer.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Dragging a photo to the Desktop will just export a JPEG preview of the ediited version.  To save a RAW file to the Desktop use the command "File > Export > Export unmodified original".

If you frequently want to edit your photos in Photoshop consider to purchase the "External Editors" extension from the AppStore for 99 cent.

Then you can call Photoshop from the Edit panel in Photos pass the RAW file to it.

For example: Passing a .CR" file from Photos to Photoshop using the External Editor extension.

I did as advised. In Photos I went to File>Export>Export unmodified original to export my RAW file to my desktop. I did succeed in exporting a JPEG file to my desktop and all the pertinent information seems to point to the fact that I did not succeed in exporting a RAW file to my desktop. However, from the desktop I am able to open the image with Photoshop as one of the options. So this advise was helpful but it has not solved the problem (unless it has and I don't know it - a distinct possibility).

I discovered that after File>Export>Export unmodified original, the next step is to check the Export IPTC as XMP box. That solved the problem.
