Q: album/folders not appearing

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this question should be in the "Photo" section, or in "Final Cut Pro X". Here is my issue: I do a lot of video editing for friends (anniversary slide shows etc.). I get the raw videos and pictures they want in the slideshow. I import the pictures into Photo and then make an album and drag the specific pictures into it. I have over 12,000 pictures in my library.

I then open up Final Cut and in the program I can open Photo and then locate the album I need to import from. For some reason, the new albums are not showing. I can see older albums I've created over the years, but not the new ones.

Could this be something to do with Photo vs. iPhoto? I never really paid any attention to the change from iPhoto to Photo since I do more video work than pictures. I just figured that Apple made a change and it's better to just go along with it instead of tilting against windmills.

It then causes me much pain to put the pictures into a folder on my desktop and then go back to FC and import from there. Any editing or enhancing to the pictures I did in Photo have to be re-done in FC. As it's not a photo editor, this just adds time and aggravation.

Please help. What am I doing wrong, and more importantly, how do I get to view my albums in FC so that I can import them?

thanx, Jack

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), FCP-X 10.2.3, Photo V 1.3, iPhoto

have you enabled your Photos Library as your System Photo Library?

Check the Photos Preferences > General.

The option "Use as system Photo Library" should be grayed out, to show that it is enabled.

If it is not, click it, then restart both Photos and Final Cut.

Are you using iCloud Photo Library?  If yes, are you using "Optimize Storage"?  iF that should be the case, ensure, that the photos you are using are stored locally and have been downloaded from iCloud.

Hi léonie, I'm good now. The only issue that I still have is that the same problem still exists when I'm using iDVD. Any suggestions on how I can access the newly created albums in iDVD?

    thanx, Jack

There you are out of luck, sorry.  iDVD is simply too old and cannot show the Photos Library in the Media. And it will probably never be updated to be fully compatible wth El Capitan and Photos.

Do you want to add a slideshow to iDVD? You could create the slideshow in Photos and export it as a video.  Then import this video to iDVD:

Or export the albums you want to use to folder on your Desktop or an iPhoto Library, if you still have iPhoto installed.

Export the photos in that album to a folder on the Desktop. Open iDVD, start creating the slideshow and drag the image files from the folder on the Desktop into the slideshow window in iDVD.  When you've completed the project and either saved it as disk image or burned to disk you can delete the folder of image files from the Desktop.

If you want to keep the project save it as an archived project which saves all of the media files, photos and videos, into the iDVD project file.  Then you can delete the folder from the Desktopl

Hi Old Toad, Thanks for your reply. That's what I've been doing now. I was just hoping that I missed something and could eliminate a step or so.

Guess us old DVD guys (as Apple has declared the death of DVD's as they did so many other things), will just have to continue being creative in tilting against Apples' "wisdom".

    thanx,

    Jack

What I've done is created an iDVD media folder in my Pictures folder and added it to iDVD's Media window:

    Photoshop001.jpg

I put all photos and videos from Photos there so they will remain there and not accidentally deleted before the project if finished. They are also available from within iDVD for adding to slideshows, menus, etc.
