Q: trying to connect iPhone to a projector

Im trying to connect my new optima projector to my iPhone 6 plus. i bought an aftermarket lightning cable that connects the phone to hdmi on the projector. When it syncs up it says i have to enable HOTSPOT and something about mirroring.  My phone doesn't have either in the menus which i believe both are carrier issues.  I have straight talk.

Question is....  Why would it need hotspot at all since its hooked up with a HDMI cable? Ive viewed YouTube videos that said nothing about hotspot or mirroring.

Maybe there is something different about the Apple brand lightning to HDMI cable that doesn't require HOTSPOT or Mirroring? does someone know?

thanks

place your finger in the bottom of the screen and swipe upwards it should give you the menu with airplay mirror settings

No, mirroring isn't on my phone because my carrier, (straight Talk) doesn't support that or hotspot.  I called an apple tech and they didn't know either.  I did find the answer though.  It has to do with the after market cable i bought.  It must have just a little something different inside it than the apple brand lightning to A/V HDMI cable.  I went and bought one and it instantly worked. The aftermarket cable instructions say that you have to have hotspot. Who knows why?  Everything on the phones screen now goes to the projector just fine. It also says its running air play. So problem solved with Apples lightning to A/V HDMI cable.
