Q: 27 inch imac video card

I purchased a 27" imac, mid 2011 model.  After a problem with the screen I ran tests and determined the video card was burned out.  I went online and found out that it is a known issue and there is a replacement program in place.  Went to my local apple store and was told that the video card was indeed burned out but that it was too late for the replacement program and I would have to come up with a third of the original price of the computer to fix it.

I have been purchasing apple products since the Mac II.  I still have in my spare bedroom my Bondi Blue iMac, my eMac, my G5 iMac and am writing this on my intel core2 duo iMac.  I would still have my G4 iMac but my ex got it in the divorce.   Not to mention the iPods and iPad.

I really expected better from them to say "Oh well."

Anyone know of an email or other contact?  Everything on the website seems to be for setting up appointments and nothing about customer care feedback.  Thanks!

You were told correctly. That program expired in 2014. If you opened the iMac then Apple will not ever service it for you. They can replace the GPU (it's socketed) if they are still available. You are no more entitled than any of us who happen to have the same model no matter how many Apple products you own. So, there is no point whining about it here. We couldn't do anything to help you in any case.

It's not the GPU, it is the graphics card.    And according to the apple page the program was extended to 4 years,  as this model was discontinued in 2012 there are actually models that will be covered.

When did you buy your iMac?

If the iMac (27-inch) meets these requirements, Apple will replace the video card free of charge for four years after the first retail sale of the computer.

If your problem happen after 4 years after you bought it... for example July 05, 2011 and you just brought the iMac in for replacement of the graphic card your out of luck.

So if you have something helpful, please add it.   If not,  please move along.

It is the GPU, a GPU and graphics card in the case of Mac's is a synonymous term. Macs do not call the graphics cards graphics cards because they have much more power than just a basic graphics card as found in an old style PC. The acronym GPU means, Graphics Processor Unit.

Oh, and there is no reason to whine or rant about your misfortune. It is misfortunate that your GPU has failed, however as you were correctly advised the program you are referring to expired 2 years ago. That yours failed after that is sad, however if you want to have it repaired you will have to pay for it.

Oh, I and I am going to ask the moderator to remove your condescending remarks to the previous poster per the Terms of Use you agreed to.
