Q: sync problems

Recently when I try and sync my Ipod Classic it is taking a very long time (hours) when in the past it took a few minutes. I tried running the diagnostics and it says device is not found even though on the screen it says it is connected and syncing. I run Windows Vista

Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated
