Q: my mac mini monitor fails to open to desktop

How to open my sleeping mini mac and see the last or new desktop screen and NOT the all white screen.

Is this an issue with the cables or the video card?

Monitor was hooked up with a DVI to DVI to Thunderbolt adaptor, and I tried a DVI to HDMI cable, but the same white screen appears. I can the desktop to open by rebooting and restarting both the monitor and the mini mac for both hookups.

Are you saying that the monitor will not wake/display anything after waking the Mac?

The Mac does wake, right? That means the Power light goes from slowly flashing to steady white?

Have you tried just powering off and then back on the monitor?

    Have you tried another monitor?

    What model Mac Mini?

    • Note the time of the next unsuccessful wake. After rebooting open the Console app in Finder>Applications>Utilities and look for log entries at the time of the unsuccessful wake. Post suspicious ones here.

Look before the log entry that starts with BOOT_TIME since that is the first line of a bootup

I have a 2013 Mac Pro desktop and I frequently have that problem but powering off and then back on the monitor usually resolves the problem. The logs show that the cause is that then Mac can't recognize the identification signal sent from the monitor.
