Q: Copy and save photos from Iphoto to Macbook Pro Pictures
I have spent hours trying to work out this simple operation but to no avail.
Have only just started using Photos, Iphoto, Cloud etc so the lingo is a little confusing and am a newbie to how it all works, despite researching there appears to be no simple explanation.
I think I am getting the handle but I am aware that if I have downloaded my camera photos onto my Ipad and it goes into the Photos Album, backed up in the Cloud - that if I delete it from the Ipad I don't have those photos anywhere else and the camera card has been erased.
I just simply want to back up all those travel photos which are now on my Ipad (not on my camera any more), backed up in the cloud - but nowhere else. I want to be able to save full size copies of all those photos and keep them either on my Macbook Pro OR backup to an external hard drive.
How do I do this? I don't want them to end up in Photos on my Macbook - I just want to store them as a backup in Pictures or use an external usb to back up. Why is this so difficult? Surely if there was the option to backup to an external hard drive it would be a lot easier to use. I am afraid I don't trust just using the Cloud, in case I accidentally erase from my Ipad - I need another physical backup to be able to work with.

Or, let the Photos Library download them from the Cloud and then export them: File -> Export -> Export Unmodified Original.
But you've complicated this process for yourself by trying to half use a facility that you don't want to use, so best tp just move them from your camera to the Mac using Image Capture (in the Applications Folder).
