Q: Disable Apple News App?

Does anyone know how I can disable the Apple news app in iOS 9?   I see it's an apple app so I can't remove it. I would setle for disabling it so I'm not getting the feeds supplied to my front page with Siri and nearby suggestions.  ThankS.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.0.2

    I had no choice but to disable the news feature. No matter what source I selected MSNBC, huffingtonpost, and other liberal rags were still polluting my spotlight screen even after choosing other sources. Im sure there is a news story here! Maybe this kind of fascism is partly responsible for the downturn in iPhone sales that has cost Apple billions of dollars in recent months.

    Disabling the spotlight suggestions worked for me, I was getting really sick of news agencies that promote the biggest bunch of liberal bias being pushed in my face every time I open my phone.  I have a large family I pay for seven iPhones monthly, it feels like you're trying to brainwash my children.  I don't remember having any political feelings towards the android phones we have had in the past.  The kids begged me for these iphones, I hate thinking my children have propaganda fliers in their hands.  Please stick to the tech business and let your customers decide on which way they want to swing politically

    You may want to look into some type of parental controls for those iPhones. Your children are still going to be able to access news from sources with biases you may not agree with even if you disable the News app.

    And that's good for them. Anyone who reads only news they agree with is going to have a limited view of the world. There is great value in understanding the opposite point of view even if you don't share it.

    Hey, I'm with you completely. But I figured I could at least share the lengths they'd need to go in order to make sure it's only news with biases they agree with that's viewable, if that makes sense.

    One of the problems with all these curated news apps/services is that people start living in an echo chamber. The world is not limited to "liberal" or "conservative", even if one makes the faulty assumption that everyone who defines themselves by one label believes exactly the same thing as everyone else who uses the same label. Failure to critically evaluate a wide variety of sources of information (and the more you agree with it, the more critically you need to consider it), contributes to the current highly polarized political climate in the U.S. Lots of basically good people think lots of other basically good people are evil because they are "liberal" (or "conservative"). It makes me very sad.

    </end polemic>

    Preaching to the choir over here. It's also one of the worst parts of Facebook, at least for me, with everyone so wound up into an Us vs. Them dichotomy that you can't share anything even vaguely political without friends and friends of friends and friends and friends of friends starting a argument right in your comments section. It's why I stick to sharing Onion articles and silly pictures on Facebook and using news aggregators for tech and gaming news.

    But now we're incredibly off topic!

    Gosh but I love the Onion! They are equal-opportunity satirists.

    I am also frustrated by getting 90% liberal biased stories rather than actual news.

    That fact that a story has what you perceive to be a bias doesn't make it not actual news. It just makes it something you personally chose not to read. People who have learned to read critically can see beyond the bias and, in fact, often learn from why things might be slanted in a certain way. If you only read things with which you agree, you'll miss out on a huge world out there, full of diverse opinions and viewpoints. That would be a great loss.

    So select news sources that reflect your views, if you don't want to know what other people are thinking. The news app lets you choose your sources, so if all you want is Fox news, just select it.

    It's nothing to do with the content… what we're talking about here is a a useless, annoying, irritating Apple app that cannot be disabled, controlled, or deleted. Apple's typical, Fascist, heavy-handed behavior since the passing of Steve Jobs.

    We're supposed to simply get used to it, and suck it up!

    Had to learn about Godwin's law, you are right, it does apply now.
