Q: Once a file is uploaded to iCloud Drive can I delete from my hard drive to free up space?

I want to free up space on my MacBook Pro's hard drive. Once I upload it to iCloud can I delete from my hard drive, and still maintain a cloud file?  Another way to put it: once a file is uploaded to iCloud drive, if I delete it from my hard drive will it automatically delete from iCloud Drive?

Thanks,

David Goldsmith

iCloud Drive is a syncing service. If you remove a file from iCloud, it is removed from iCloud Drive and vice versa.

It is not an effective way to free up space on your MacBook.

Thanks. What is a good app/method for directly uploading photos to a cloud-based storage system, one where it is not necessary to leave duplicate files on a hard drive?  A system where I can log on to a site, and retrieve photos when I want and not worry about them using up excessive space on my lap tops' drive.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Make a search for "cloud storage" or "cloud backup"
