Q: How to increase HD space for better performance

Hello!

I have a 13" Late 2013 MaBook Pro with 8 GB DDR3 and 251GB Flash storage. It's running kind of slow in general. Beach balls, windows are delayed when trying to open, etc. (I ran disk utility.)

I checked my storage data and noticed I only have 44 GB free space. 50% of my storage is being hogged by "Other".

I'm assuming if I removed a bunch of this "Other" stuff, my mac would run better. How do I identify what this stuff is?

Cheers!

    Remove these:

    - Adware:

        ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.jdibackup.ZipCloud.notify.plist

        2 adware files found. [Remove]

    - Remoe MacKeeper following the instructions here:

    Do not install MacKeeper

    - When you ran EtreCheck was PotosShot runnin? I as since:

    Top Processes by CPU:

            98%    Adobe Photoshop CC 2015

That is making the Mac slow

do you have any wigets running that would cause this high usage?

            30%    DashboardClient

    See:

    What is DashboardClient?

Further, you have not rebooted in 17 days. Rebooting more frequently usually helps speed up things

Please read OS X Mavericks: If your Mac runs slowly.

I checked my storage data and noticed I only have 44 GB free space. 50% of my storage is being hogged by "Other".

I'm assuming if I removed a bunch of this "Other" stuff, my mac would run better.

It appears you have been misled, and that assumption is unjustified. Your available disk space is much more than sufficient. If and when it becomes insufficient OS X will present an informative dialog (which should not be ignored). The above Apple Support document describes the necessary actions should they be required.

"ZipCloud" and "MacKeeper" are the most likely causes of poor performance. You can remove most forms of adware by upgrading to the latest OS X version available for your Mac: Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support. Learn how not to install garbage software to begin with by reading How to install adware.
