Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

So I just bought a used iPhone 6 Plus from eBay around a month ago and am now having issues with unresponsive touchscreen. I heard the previous responses of manipulating or pressing hard on the screen to get it to respond which seems to work for a while but then the problem comes back. Now I'm stuck with a phone that sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

Spoke to Apple live chat this morning and they were helpful but wanted me to reset the settings etc. which I did and of course it worked for a while and then stopped working. It's strange how it has been sat on my desk at work all day and I had problems nearly every time I unlocked the phone, now I'm home and it's sat on my desk here and I haven't had any issues in the past 2 hours.

I did plan on going back to Live chat this evening but suddenly the option has disappeared and it says that my device has expired for technical support - when yesterday it said I had the option until October 2016 - conspiracy?

I've noticed a website in the UK that will replace the touch IC chips for £75 but I'm a bit concerned about shelling out more money to fix it when it's not guaranteed (which is why I wanted Apple to help but it seems, from this thread, that they probably won't). Any advice?

Take a look at my post from Jul 30, 2016 4:46 PM. It's not always the IC chip, could also be just a simple loose connection inside. There is still some hope that no parts need to be replaced or solder reflow

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 6 plus that I purchased back in September 2014.  I originally thought the defect was due to the bend gate problem which is why I bought an otter box case to secure my $900+ investment, just to find out that I only postponed the inevitable. The Genius Bar employees knew of this issue right away and banged my phone against the table a few times to get it to be responsive again (now the phone is worse than when I went into the Apple Store).  After waiting for a few minutes I get the bad news "Apple is aware of this issue and there are no fixes that exist, you have only two options buy another iPhone 6 plus for $330 (to have the same re-occuring problem and only a 90 day warranty) or buy a new iPhone".

I loved all my apple products (iPhone 3gs, 2 iPhone 5, iPhone 6 plus, apple tv (both generations), iPad 2, iPad air, iMac, and time machine) and I even purchased 3 additional iPads for family.  I was so excited when I received one of the first large screen iPhones, but now I am upset that I spent top dollar on a defective Apple device.

Why has Apple not acknowledged this problem and recall all defective products (iPhone 6 plus)? Has Apple's values changed?

As a loyal customer, I would like Apple to fix and warranty my defective phone, for 2 additional years, or allow trade-ins for an upgrade to the next model at a reasonable price.

It's amazing how quickly posts get deleted on this forum! Wouldnt it be something if Apple spent as much attention helping us with our issue as the forum admins do to deleting these posts? My guess is that we wouldn't be at page 50 on this topic... Now on with deleting this post! It's "off-topic, speculative, and non-technical!

Im pretty sure Jamie was being sarcastic. I took it that way, at least.   And I've already rolled it back. man, these thumbs were t meant to text on such a tiny phone. Thank goodness I didn't have to rollback to a 4! Can you imagine going back to four rows tall?!!

The description of this problem EXACTLY mirrors the problems I'm facing.  Can't answer calls, the touch registers about two rows too high -- and I have video of it doing that in mail --, touch screen has long delays between touches and cached input, sometimes it drops characters during input, and in general is making the phone unusable.

I just ran into this issue today on my 6 Plus after updating to 9.3.3. Did you find anything that got your phone back in working order?

Mine happened too yesterday, as soon as I updated to 9.3.3. Please let me know if you find a solution.

This is 100% a design fault with the iPhone 6+ hardware.

Apple store employee told me today he's seen a tonne of these. It's about time Apple takes responsibility for the issue and makes amends.

My current fix is to bend the phone slightly. That stops the problem for a short while.

Can someone from Apple please respond? !!

Why not tell Apple what you think they should do, we are not Apple so telling us will do nothing.

No, as has been noted repeatedly in this thread, Apple doesn't respond here.

You won't get any answers from Apple or any helpful answers here.  Only criticism for not being in love with apple products
