Q: El Capitan Wakes From Sleep

I have latest 15" MBP and just upgraded to El Capitan. I have noticed that since the upgrade MBP wakes up from sleep even with a closed lid, no attached input or output devices of course. In fact the device was quite hot inside my laptop bag that I started to worry -- So it is not only a usage issue anymore, but i do not want components overheated inside a non-circulating small place like a bag, especially the battery, which is a highly flammable chemical as we know of...

Anyways, Power Nap is disabled while on battery before you suggest that one. Now I try to turn off different devices like BlueTooth and Wi-Fi to see if there is a relation and a workaround.

In the meanwhile, please if anyone has a suggestion, even how to try to tackle down the problem?

I had the same issue. Thought it's some service trying to sync every time. But then I found it's the nano receiver of the wireless mouse waking laptop every time during sleep. I removed it and let it sleep overnight. Didn't notice a drastic drain.

Updating to 10.11.1 seems to have fixed it for me. Instead of waking every minute it does wake occasionally but maybe that is normal? The Macbook is cold to the touch in the morning though without significant battery drain.

I upgraded recently and have 10.11.1 but still seem to have the same problem. I have checked the Energy tab under Activity Monitor none of the apps seem to be preventing sleep.

I also changed the power settings to disable "Enable Power Nap" both on battery and power adapter. I also disabled the "Wake for Wifi".

I still cannot have it sleep. Is there a software Lunesta so it can sleep ?

    I also suffered this issue.

I've tested several circumstances and I've found what the problem is.

In my case, Karabiner is the cause.

After turning off Karabiner, my Mba sleeps well.

I don't know whether this is the problem of Karabiner or El Capitan.

Uhm.. it seems just my mistake.

My mac sleeps well now with Karabiner

    I ahve the same problem.

A MacBook Pro from 2008 no Karibner or any other software (or hardware!) installed. Seems the mac wakes up momentary when the kip is closed regardless if it is plugged in or not, and drains the battery flat is it is not connected to power.

Hopefully an update will be on the way soon...

I think I just fixed this problem. In my case it seems like it was Bluetooth that was causing the wakes; specifically the "allow bluetooth devices to wake up computer" option:

I have the same issue. I close my MBP lid to put it to sleep, and all I hear all night is the Mac startup sound approximately every 15 minutes. I wish I didn't have to shut down my MB after each use

I'll try turning off Wifi and letting it sit.

Turned off wifi, still kept restarting in closed sleep mode. Turned off bluetooth devices waking computer, nothing. Removed nano receiver for wireless mouse, nothing. I noticed that it only restarts every 10-15 minutes while closed if I have no apps running at all. I'm going to try leaving apps open and seeing what happens.

This issue has been persisting for over a month now, thousands of Wake reason: ?'s, and opening the lid of my previously fully charged to find it dead after several hours is quite frustrating.

I have played with turning off bluetooth and wifi, independently, and combined, with no result. Any help would be appreciated.

I solved this problem by turning off power nap mode AND turning off bluetooth devices waking the computer.

I'm experiencing this too. I have 2 MBPs, a 2013 and a 2015, both running El Cap. Only the newer 2015 has the issue!

Much newer and higher spec but battery lasts about half as long and always fully drains overnight when lid is close and gets hot in the laptop case.

    Not impressed.

Thank you for testing all these scenarios.  Your conclusions were spot on.  After leaving for work one day with 100% battery and not ending up using my MacBook, I was perplexed when I opened the laptop after returning home and having a battery of 30%.

After reading your thread, I realized my user password changed for the WiFi at work.  Today, I made sure to open my MacBook and update the WiFi password, then subsequently put it back to sleep at 95% and back into my bag.  Just opened my MacBook now, 8 hours after putting it back to sleep with the updated WiFi password, and it is at 93%.  It must have been repeatedly trying to connect to the known WiFi at my work using incorrect credentials.

    Thanks for figuring it out!

Here are some specifics of my situation:

-MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) running El Capitan

    -WiFi ON (never turned off)

    -Bluetooth ON (never turned off)

    -Power Nap OFF on battery

    -[left Dropbox running as well]
