What is the state of your OS and can you startup? If you can backup all your data now.

Try starting up in Safe Mode.

(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first. Also give it a little time after start because it runs some maintenance routines in the beginning)

If this works then download and re-install while in Safe Mode.

    download from where?

you can install from recovery mode either from the recovery partition or through an internet connection.

if your computer shipped with Yosemite, or was built when Yosemite was publicly available you can restore it from internet recovery, if not Yosemite will have to be on an archive you already possess or you own it and it's in your app store purchases and the internet recovery will install the last iteration of the OS that was available when the computer shipped; for instance if it came with 10.9.2 your only option will be 10.9.5 which was the last iteration of Mavericks.
