Q: After reinstall all mac apps cost 20.00 CHF

Hello,

 

I bought my macbook pro about 1.5 years ago. Its the mid-2014 model. When I first got it, it had all the pages, numbers and so on apps installed with it. Now after reinstalling they cost 20.00 CHF each.

 

I set up my mac again with the same apple-id and everything else is the same.

 

After some search I found that they should be free for all macs after 2013 or something. How can I get them for free after a reinstall? In other posts apple support suggests to call them if it doesn't work, which costs about 33.00 CHF for me which is not free at all.

 

I'm out of solutions and do not want to pay that much just to get someone on the phone.

    In the Mac App store, click the "Purchases" tag. Sign in to see your purchases. They should be listed there, with an "Open" button beside each.

    I checked that before and now again to make sure, forgot to add it in the question.

    None of the apps (pages, numbers etc) are there, but they were before I reinstalled and were always kept up to date.

    The option key depressed when you click the purchases tab in the OS X App Store. Did you do that also? Do the applications appear in your Purchases tab with Download/Install buttons?

     

    It is the following quote from you that gets my attention:

    Does this imply that you wiped, or entirely replaced your physical drive with a clean install of OS X?

     

    If that is true, the original (free) installation data trail that the OS X App Store would synchronize with on your original machine configuration has been lost. If the first paragraph is no help, then I suggest that you contact the OS X App Store via the application itself. Under Quick Links on the right side of the landing page, there is a Support link. The next page will have a Contact support link, where you should be able to interact, and resolve this in a free chat.

    Yes, I formatted the hard drive completely and made a new install. Was my first time doing this on mac, so I used the apple guides What to do before selling or giving away your Mac - Apple Support and How to reinstall OS X - Apple Support.

     

    Other apps I had before appear in the purchased tab (either 'open' or 'install' or 'download'). Did you mean to hold the option key while pressing on the purchases tab? If so, that did not change anything and the same apps get displayed as before.

     

    However I was finally possible to contact apple support by email and it said I would get an answer in 48 hours. I had to go through the support page about 20 times until I could get an email off for free, they really hide it well..

     

    Thank you, I will give an update if apple support could help me with that.
