Q: how do you move a file from downloads folder

How do I move a file from the downloads folder? In PC you right click and choose move or save as. MAC has nothing as far as I know. Please help. I have to do too many steps in MAC.

    Option 1

Open up two finder windows, the downloads folder and in the second the location where you want to go and drag the file between the two.

    Option 2

You can use keyboard shortcuts, copy the file (⌘ + c) and then when you paste it (⌘ + v) in the new location, also have the option key press (⌘ + ⌥ + v) and this will move rather than copy.

    Option 3

Use the contextual menu. Right click the file and select "Copy [filename]". Go to where you want the file to go, right click there with the option key press (⌥) and select "Move item here".

Thank you. That is a lot of steps for a simple task. Hopefully MAC will fix this and allow a simple right click on the item with a "move to folder" option. Would save a lot of time. I appreciate the help.

As far as I'm aware they are exactly the same methods to move a file in wondows, what version of windows do you see "move to folder" in the contextual menu?

    Windows, 7, 8, 10

In any version of windows, when you download a document, you can immediately right click the item and have full function of that document to open, copy, move, etc... When you go to move the file you can rename it as needed.

In MAC, stacks gives you no functions other than open. In the downloads folder on MAC you have no move function other than to the trash.

Option 3 seems to be the closest to a PC function but still you cannot rename the document.

Thanks for the info, didn't know your could do that, I'm an Option1 type of person, even on Windows.

The downloads folder how no special functionality and effectually works just like any other folder.
