Q: slow motion lost after sync from mac to iphone

Hi,

I can capture videos in slow motion but those videos play at normal speed once Sync them via iTunes.

1. Capture videos in slow motion.

2. The videos first play in slow motion in the iPhone. There is a time line slider to move the slo-mo effect back and forth.

3. I do a back-up via iTunes including videos.

4. After syncing, the videos in the iPhone appear in one album called "Slo-Mo".

5. In the thumbnail of the video clip I can see the small dial icon that all other slow motion videos have.

6. Playing the video shows a normal speed clip without the timeline slider under the video frames view.

The videos DO retain the slo-mo "effect" in Aperture and iPhoto also. Not in the iPhone after syncing.

Any hints to solve this?  thanks

jp

Hi Darwood, I agree with you, however if you require videos to be slow mo after exporting videos or importing, follow this steps:

    1) Edit the video after recording on iMovie, and save afterwards as new. See link:

    http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/how-to-create-slo-mo-video-on-an-iphone-6-an d-6-plus/

    2) Download the app (Slo Mo Video) and this can do slow mo on creating new videos and editing pre-existing videos by altering the fps.

    Hope this helps everyone.

I really do hope Apple finds a fix.

Uploading the broken slo-mo, from your phones slo-mo album to Dropbox, then downloading the same file to your camera roll works.

I say 'works' - but you'll have 2 copies of the same video in the slo-mo album. The downloaded one will work the original, not!

This may be of use when you only have the one device to hand. Obviously an internet connection is required.

Same problem here. Seems to me that something is getting broken on the video metadata, stating that it should be played "as is"

I have extremely low hopes, but does anyone know if iOS 9.3 fixes this?

Can we take legal action against them ? Because we are buying these expensive products, because they tell us "they just work"... but in this case... it does not work within their own product line. If a $700 phone can't play slo-mo synced back from a $1299 priced computer. Pathetic. Steve, where are you ?

That's a little harsh iamhiren but I understand your point. This has been a "bug" since Apple brought the slo-mo feature to the iPhone. I see all of these work-arounds that work but why should we have to work around something that should have been addressed by now? It's like no one cares to read these discussion boards. It needs to be addressed asap and fixed. It's ridiculous to have spent all of this money on Apple products and have something this simple not be fixed yet.

I also have 2 copies of the same video in my slo-mo folder, one that plays in slo-mo and the other that doesn't.

For me it's the other way around though: the one that's from the camera roll (which never left the iPhone) plays in slo-mo; the one that's been copied back to the phone from my Mac doesn't play in slow motion.

    ...

For me, the quickest workaround to the slow-mo syncing issue is this: don't delete your slow mo videos from the camera roll after importing them to your mac. Keep the original on your phone.

Obviously, the downside is that it means you'll have two copies of the video in the slo-mo folder, one copy that works and another that doesn't play slo-mo (if, that is, the video is in an album that syncs from your computer to phone).

Either way, the issue still isn't fixed, and I'm running iOS 9.3.3 on an iPhone SE and the Photos App in OS 10.11.6.

I finally gave in and decided to pay $0.99/month for 50GB iCloud storage and turned on iCloud Photo Library and everything works great and my 40GB library only takes up about 6GB on my phone.

Apple obviously wants everyone to move to this route and has no intention of fixing these issues and I still hate them for that.  For as much as they charge for their devices, their software should work flawlessly, and the fact that this hasn't been fixed since iOS 8 is a joke and a slap in the face to their customers.
