Q: AppleID is asking for a password for an ID that doesn't exist

When I try to update my apps on my phone I'm asked to enter a password for an AppleID that does not exist.

I am logged in and am able to download apps but not update.  I don't have this problem with my iPad using the same account, just the iPhone.

Help please!

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.3

This Apple ID is not simply "made up" without any basis.

    • Is the iPhone previously owned?  Might this be the Apple ID of the previous owner?
    • Might it be the Apple ID you erroneously typed at Settings > iTunes & App Stores?  Or Settings > iCloud?
    • Might it be the Apple ID of the apps' owner?  Are you using apps (or music or books) someone else purchased?

No, it's not previously owned.  I'm logged in to my account on my iPad and iCloud and don't have issues with it using those.  It's just the phone.

When it asks for my Apple ID password it shows the beginning of my email and not the @me.com portion, then tells me my account it locked and to verify everything, and after I do it tells me there was a verification error.  It actually looks like the apps are updating but when looking in the updates in the app store they still say to update.  This has only started happening after I updated the software to 9.3.3.  Could that be the culprit?

    Fortunately, you mentioned "me.com".

Yes, the iOS update may well be involved.  Use "iCloud.com" instead of your very old email address.  See:
