Aug 5, 2016 5:02 PM in response to zamoyskiby Bakhtina,★HelpfulHas the device been restarted at least once since you noticed the issue? Has it been force restarted?
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If a force restart doesn't help : Backup your data, then Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support. After that, set up the device as new (not using the backup). Test the device. If it still presents the issue, it's a hardware issue. You can go to https://getsupport.apple.com/ and to learn which service options are available in your country.

Aug 5, 2016 5:01 PM in response to zamoyskiby SinaSyndrome,★HelpfulI've had this happen to me with my iPhone 3gs. What caused it for me was water damage. I was told it could have been from even a drop of water or too much moisture in general. My phone was never dropped into or submerged in water. Had to get it replaced.

Aug 5, 2016 5:05 PM in response to Bakhtinaby zamoyski,Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, did a couple re-starts, but no change. Have not done a re-set yet, but a local phonr repairer that I trust has said that it is a hardware issue, and the screen needs replacing; cost is £40 (GBP), which is a reasonable price over here. Will probably do this.

Aug 5, 2016 5:07 PM in response to SinaSyndromeby zamoyski,Yes, might be a water issue (phone is 7 to 8 years old). What is strange is that the rest of the screen is just fine; so, a rather weird situation.
