Q: Upgraded to El Capitan, bluetooth keyboard and mouse won't pair

Finally decided to upgrade to El Capitan. Now my Mac Mini is unusable. My Mac wireless keyboard and mouse will not pair; the bluetooth setup app just endlessly searches.

I have zero mouse or keyboard control. Most solutions I've read here tell me to 'get a wired usb keyboard' to fix it. I don't have a wired usb keyboard. (Why would I?)  Just so we're clear: I have to go buy a wired keyboard now because new Apple software has rendered my formerly-perfectly-usable computer unusable?

Please tell me this is not the case. How do I fix this? And why didn't the El Capitan update warn me before rendering my computer useless?

    Okay, I did the power cord trick and it seems to have fixed this. The mouse paired up and I immediately went into the bluetooth menu and was able to select my wireless keyboard. I turned that on and it paired properly. Whew!

    I would delete my above rant, but can't figure out how to do that. maybe this will help someone else: unplug the power cord for 15 seconds;

    plug power cord back in and wait 5 seconds, then push power button;

    hopefully your mouse will pair, so then go into the bluetooth menu and select your wireless keyboard.
